Year 5 Environmental Awareness Project
Year 5 completed an Environmental Awareness Project from the Manchester Society of Architects.
This year the children focused on outside buildings, choosing areas and viewpoints they found interesting in school. Afterwards they produced captions to go with their photos.
The board of photographs are also on display at the Castlefield Gallery, Manchester exhibition. The MSA Design Awards exhibition is open to the public from Thursday 2 to Thursday 16 May (Castlefield Gallery opening hours: Wed-Sun, 1-6pm)
Thank you to Mr Edelmann for letting us know about this year's project.
NB: Click the photos to see them in a gallery format with all the captions.

Reflective Letters by Ben. I took this photo at an angle to make it look more effective. I like the way the sun reflects in different parts of the photo.

The Water Family by Charly. I took this picture as you can see the reflection of the trees in the puddles. At the end of the puddles you can see the tall brown tree.

Can You Screw it? By Emily. I took this picture because you can see the sunlight coming through the gate. You can also see the rust on the screw.

3…2…1…TAKE OFF by Ethan H. I took this photo as soon as the bird landed on the roof. I had to be quick! I also like the clear lines of the rivets on the roof.

Strength by Ethan. We took a really good close up shot of the office building. I like how the hedges create a shield around the building.

How Did That Get There? By Louis. You may not think it but the black object in the gutter is a tennis ball. We like this picture because of the interesting textures and the dripping water.

Sun and Rain? By Marisa. This picture is focusing on the raindrops on the shadow of a slide. The wood makes you feel at home whilst the slide is very bright.

What’s in the Crack? By Natalie. I took this photo because there are lots of interesting cobwebs inside the gap, as well as the bricks being cracked, making it look old.

Straight Lines by Natasha. I took this particular photo because it has a row of plants. I like the way the plants are creating a fence of their own. I also like the contrast between the metal fence and the plants.

What’s Around the Corner? By Sam. I took this picture because I like how the shadows go along until half way and it looks like a little ally.

A Field Full of Nails by Shani. This is a very interesting photo. When you look at the photo you can see the nails in a range of perspective.

Jail Break by Sophia. In this photo the fence is like the bars of the cell and the poor rusty steel wheel is the criminal breaking out of prison.

Looking through the Leaves by Woody. We like the photo because the leaves are really clear and the background is a bit hazy. The leaves are the star of the photo… everything is pointing at the leaves and that’s what makes it really unique. The strong wind the night before had pushed the sign over.
