What is Sports Premium?
Sports Premium is funding allocated to schools from the Government. The premium must be used to fund additional and sustainable improvements to the provision of PE and sport, for the benefit of primary-aged pupils, to encourage the development of healthy, active lifestyles. Allocations for the academic year are calculated using the number of pupils in years 1 to 6, as recorded in the January census of the previous year:
NCJPS received:
- £17,990 in 2018-19
-
£17, 961 in 2019-20
-
£17,919.00 in 2020 -21
-
£17,940 and £1136.23 additional funding provided in 2021-22
During 2023-34 we will receive £17,770 from the Government.
During this year we are also Creating an Active School (CAS) with Stockport Shapes Alliance, creating a whole school framework to embed physical activity at the heart of the school so that it becomes everyone’s responsibility.
Sports Premium Information
How can schools use the funding?
The premium must be spent by schools on making additional and sustainable improvements to the provision of PE and sport for the benefit of all pupils to encourage the development of healthy, active lifestyles
See the PE and Sports Impact document below for a detailed breakdown of how the funding was used and the positive impact.
How will schools be held to account for the funding?
Since September 2013, Ofsted inspections report on PE and sport provision and on how schools spend their additional funding. Schools are accountable and have been required to publish, since April 2014, on their websites, details of how they spend (or will spend) their PE and sport grant. They must also include detail about the impact this funding has on pupils’ PE and sport participation and attainment. Paragraph 139 of Ofsted’s School Inspection Handbook explains that, in judging the quality of leadership in, and management of, a school, inspectors should monitor and evaluate: ‘... how well the school uses the new primary school sport funding to improve the quality and breadth of PE and sport provision, including increasing participation in PE and sport so that all pupils develop healthy lifestyles and reach the performance levels they are capable of
This year we will use the funding to:
Buy into sports coaching which will:
- involve the engagement of all pupils in regular physical activity
- raise the profile of PE and sport across the school
- increase confidence, knowledge and skills of staff in teaching PE and Sport
- provide a broader experience of a range of sports and activities to all pupils
- increase competition opportunities
- increase lunchtime club provision
This programme also enables North Cheshire to provide a range of school activities.
School will also use the funding to continue to provide a whole day of PE lessons provided by Neil Mather - First 11 Sports Coaching. Each class will have a lesson/term provided by Neil Mather - First 11 Sports Coaching.
Reception | multi skills |

Year 4 | dodgeball, dance and football - tennis coaching |

The funding will also provide a coach for four lunchtime clubs each week. We will continue to follow the advice of Government re COVID-19 and the impact this has on sport.
We continue to buy into the Stockport Shapes Alliance Partnership which enables us to compete in a variety of competitions. We will also have a sports' coach for one morning per week. This will enable staff to have CPD and ensure that the children have expert coaching.
The programme also allows us to access some free tennis coaching for Y3/4
We will also continue to purchase new PE equipment which can be used in the playground as well as during PE lessons.
Our Objective:
To achieve self-sustaining improvement in the quality of PE and sport in primary schools.
We would expect indicators of such improvement to include:
- the engagement of all pupils in regular physical activity – kick-starting healthy active lifestyles
- the profile of PE and sport being raised across the school as a tool for whole school improvement
- increased confidence, knowledge and skills of all staff in teaching PE and sport
- broader experience of a range of sports and activities offered to all pupils
- increased participation in competitive sport.
PE Pupil Voice
Children from Y1-Y6 came to talk about their experiences of PE at NCJPS. The children were very positive, with all of the children saying they enjoyed PE and would like to have more time participating in PE during the week!
- The children were aware of the importance of physical activity on their physical and mental health. The children described PE as: ‘fun, being able to embrace your inner self, being able to enjoy different sports… you get to stretch your body, makes you want to move more, activities are challenging'.
- The children felt confident and safe taking part in PE at school.
- The children also suggested that they would like to participate in more outside PE. With our fantastic facilities, this is a useful suggestion.
- It was also useful to hear about the many different sports the children are involved in outside of school.
